I see you. I know you. I love you. These are powerful statements. This week as we hear Jesus calling and inviting Philip and Andrew to follow him I have been thinking a lot about being seen, being heard, being loved and belonging. This song from The Fray also came to mind. It is so powerful to be seen, to be known, to be loved and know that you belong.
This year reading the John 1 gospel I heard echoes of Jesus knowing about the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4 . Both of them had experiences of Jesus seeing them, knowing them, loving them as they are. In many ways they were both found by him not knowing that they were in any way lost.
Lost and found- coins, sheep, prodigal sons… Eureka a moment of discovery. Read here about the origin of this expression. In this season of Epiphany I hope for you some “Eureka” moments and also times when you know you have been found, you have been seen, you are loved deeply and you belong to God.
This weekend we will also hear parts of Psalm 139. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are deeply known by God who knit you together in your mother’s womb. May these words come to you in this season of Epiphany as an “aha” moment. You are seen. You are known. You are loved by the God who created you and gave to you your first breath.
