Holy Week, Holy Walk

April 18, 2019

Jesus said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.  While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.” John 12:35-36

When there is much fear, pain, tragedy it can be all encompassing to be drawn to it.  A lot has been going on this week and the darkness, the fear, the tragedies and sorrows are all around us.  The Light of Christ is also present.

In this Holy Week I want to invite you to consider taking a few minutes or more time if you have it - to take a walk.  Before you go on your walk choose a word. Write down this word of your own choosing to focus on as you walk. Maybe you choose something like - peace, love, patience, Jesus, joy.  Or maybe there is a person or a concern you want to choose and you can write their name down or that concern.  Let your walk be your prayer. As you walk be curious about what that word means to you and if you have chosen a person or concern to pray for be curious about how God deeply cares about that person, that concern.

You can use your word in a prayer. Inhale the word and exhale the word. Let this be holy time for you. In this Holy Week we remember the Last Supper the last meal he shared with his friends. We remember how he prayed in the garden.  We remember the days that led up to the crucifixion when Jesus walked to Mount Calvary.

At the table, in the garden, in the trial, in the walk to Mt Calvary we remember. Remembering Jesus love for us allows the light to give us direction. We are children of the light.  This Holy Week will you put one foot in front of the other and let Jesus walk with you. Let a prayer, a word or a verse of scripture light your way.  In the very midst of the brokenness of this world Jesus is present.

"We are living in a world that is absolutely transparent and the divine is shining through it all the time." --Thomas Merton

The message spoken by angels at Jesus birth is a message for us to hear now as we remember his death. Do not be afraid. It is a Holy Week may your Holy Walk help you remember you are child of the light. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.
